Home at last..Today has been a very busy day for me and my helpers at the donation Station..by 4 PM today we had a pick up truck and my 6' x 10' tilt trailer, filled to the gills with everything you can think of for the relief effort..We pulled the trailer over to Westplains to the Civic Center, where they unloaded it for me and then they took our picture for an article they are going to put into the local paper..They said something too about the radio station..I don't care about all that..I just wanted to help as many people that we could, and it is not over, not by a long shot..These people are going to need everything, for a long time to come..So, we will be there until I am told different either by the Red Cross or by God..If any of you want to come help out, we will be at the Dollar General Store in Alton Missouri from 8am to 7pm, for the next few days..I'm leaving my big trailer (16' enclosed w/ramps) at the dollar store until it is over, and I'm using my small trailer to deliver the goods..Today on the way back from town, I ran over some rail road tracks and my trailer came loose and I was towing it by the chains..When I pulled over and stopped to hook it back up, I found out that my bumper hitch has broken a weld and has two serious cracks in it..I will be welding it up in the morning..I'm too tired right now..We did take some pictures of the load and myself and a couple helpers before we took it over to W/plains..I'll send them to Lady and Jim..Not to bragg but just to show how we spent the weekend..We just had to do something for those people, and believe me when I say it feels good to do good, even if it is for someone you don't even know..I just hope that someday if we ever need it, it will come back to us..Getting a cramp in my typing finger, so I better quit..We miss you guys, and hope you had a fun and relaxing weekend, with lots of food and lots of riding..I'm getting stronger, and I'll be back out there again soon , playing in the traffic with all my rowdy triker buddies..The wild bunch sounds like a good name for this crew..See Ya's soon..Love and respects..MB out.
Back again, Well the Red Cross told us about the Convoy of Hope that is leaving out of the Civic Center in West PLains early Tuesday morning..We will have a load there by then and maybe more! I know some people have been treated bad by the Red Cross, golly gee, they want some of their money back after helping you out..Well what would we do without them?? They are by far the biggest and best equipped orginization to handle people in crisis..And New Orleans is in crisis big time, so I don't want to waste my energy on debating who is the best or who is right..I'm a do 'er not a talker..We are doing something that we feel is right and no matter what the popular opinion is, we are doing the right thing. So after sticking my foot in my mouth up to the knee, we have a lot of work to do tomorrow..Its off to beddie by, and sleepey time, so we will be fresh for the heat and work tomorrow..I can't help but think about the millions of people out there who don't have a nice comfortable bed to sleep in..It almost makes me want to sleep on the floor, but not yet..Come by and help if you can..If not its OK..It will get done..MB out.
OK guys, everyone has their preference, but for today we will be going with the Red Cross..The convoy of Hope is all the way up in Springfield, but our local Red Cross said they would take any kind of donations, as long as the items we took them were new.No used clothing etc. They are providing us with signs to make it an official station..The local radio station will be announcing it at noon today..We can take in donations of money, as long as they are in a check or money order form, made out to the Red Cross..We will be setting up at the Dollar General in Alton Missouri..Anyone wanting to help out is welcome..Gotta go, got lots of things to do..Have fun at the camp-out..I'll see you at the next one..MB out.
Hey Guys, There is an organization called convoy of hope and there is one up by springfield. They are taking cash donations as well as food, clothes etc. If we get a hold of one of the tv stations in springfield I'll bet they could point us in the right direction. I personally don't like the red cross organization. they upgraded their phone system on donations for 9 11. I also know someone that they helped after their home burnt. then they sent them a bill. I heard that that is not the only case where that has happened. Do whatever you want. Larry and I are going convoy of hope way. see ya at the trike in.
MB, I think what you are proposing is fantastic but I just pulled the following from the Red Cross web site. It is really hard to know what to do to help but it appears the only donations anyone is accepting right now are cash donations. Maybe we can put our collective heads together and come up with a plan that will help this weekend at the Trike Meet.
FROM THE RED CROSS WEB SITE:
"In-kind donations are best when they come from companies that can provide new items in a quantity that meets the mass care needs of victims – for example, Anheuser-Busch is again donating canned water for hurricane victims and response workers," said Lepof. "Unsolicited, spontaneous donations of goods and services from individuals and community groups, although well intentioned, have hidden costs and pose a number of complications for initial relief efforts."
For these reasons, the Red Cross is unable to accept any large collections of items, such as clothing, hygiene items, furniture, toys, blankets, and canned goods. Nor is it able to accept small, individual donations of these items."
Hi guys & gals, I guess you know by now that we are not going to have a motor roast at this camp-out..Another time, for sure..What I am planning on doing right now is going to help a lot of people..I have a 16 foot enclosed trailer, that I am going to park somewhere in Alton, hopefully at the dollar store, to take in donations for the people in Louisiana, who have lost everything they own..I am calling the Red Cross in the morning to find out where to take the stuff after we collect it..Anybody who would like to come by and lend a hand is welcome..Anybody who has a trailer and wants to do this, like maybe in Ava , should get busy.. I know we can fill several trailers right here and most of the people here are on SSI or fixed incomes..In Ava where all the rich folks live, I'm sure you could do as good or better..Its just an idea I had and I am going to do it..If I park my trike there it will draw a crowd, and it will give our club (trike family) some recognition by doing this..I'm not in it for the glory or for my own recognition, I'm just trying to help out a lot of people who have lost their homes, their way of life, and everything they own..We sit around talking about doing something, and nothing ever gets done..Well I'm tired of talking..It time to do something, even if its wrong..This isn't wrong..These people need everything that we just take for granted, drinking water, canned food, bread, clothes, blankets, beds, toothpaste and brushes..When this kind of thing happens, we have to do something..To do nothing is a real sin, when so many need so much..We have it to give, and we will be doing it..Do what you can, and God will bless you and take care of you..Who knows, maybe someday we might be in a natural disaster and we might need the help..I'm through preaching, its time for action..See ya on the front lines..Have fun at the camp-out..We will be too busy to party right now..Love to all, Moonbear out..
