I'm sure Barb would put lots of brown sugar on your pb sandwich - you need sweetening up! Archie would have been alot nicer if only Edith had fed him more brown sugar.
HEY ROSIE, COULD YOU FIND ME A RECIPE FOR A PEANUT BUTTER SANDWICH. I KNOW THERE IS PEANUT BUTTER IN IT, BUT I'M WONDERIN ABOUT BROWN SUGAR. WHAT DO YA THINK. THINK?
Rosie, I had never heard of beans and cornbread growing up. Jim introduced me to pinto beans. I was raised on meat. Anyway, there was a good recipe on the bag of pinto beans. They need to be washed well first because they sometimes have bits of debris or pebbles in them. They have to boil quite a while to get soft. I don't like to eat onions by themselves but Iuse them in everything I cook. They give a great flavor and you don't notice it as onion when it is done, so be sure and use them. A ham bone or ham hock give great flavor also. Now, I have also been introduced to great white northern beans with ham done the same way and it is very nice. The only beans I ever ate growing up was baked beans and again, you want a ham bone base and that's where the brown sugar goes. Hugs, Lady
Rosie - The way I remember my Mom making beans involved a big pot, a bag of pinto beans, and a wood cook stove. Anything else in the pot was a bonus. I have seen everything in there from pig feet to squirrel heads (if you are going to use squirrel heads, it is best to remove the eyeballs first, so they don't watch you eat them). I just did a search on the Internet for "Hillbilly Pinto Bean Recipes" and came up with a recipe that involved more ingredients than Mom ever had in her kitchen in her whole life (must have been for the hilllbillys that lived in the flatlands). They said you could make it for less that $45. Mom could have made a banquet for the Gov'nor for less than $45. I'm pretty sure that a pot of Mom's beans would have been more like 45 cents or we would of been having potato soup. I do know it is best to make a pot of beans on the first warm night in the spring so you can sleep with the windows open. Good luck, enjoy, and welcome to the life of a poor boy.
Hey - my hubby likes his beans sweet like his woman! Hahaha!!!!! Seriously the beans and ham were pretty good - had the side of cornbread, too. But if anyone's got a better reciepe I'll take it. I can't find a thing anywhere about it - tried the cookbooks and the internet.
