As of 2011 there are LED bulbs available as efficient as 150 lm/W and even inexpensive low-end models typically exceed 50 lm/W. The high initial cost of the commercial Cree LED Flashlights bulb is due to the expensive sapphire substrate which is key to the production process.

Dale - I know us Caveboys agreed to take it easy on the ol' bats during the mosquito season this year, so they would take care of our mosquito problem,  but I'm thinking mosquito season is about over and it's time to turn Orkin Al loose with his Eraticator again. Besides, I am not sure I wouldn't rather have mosquitos buzzing around than ol' bats anyway. At least with mosquitos you don't have to deal with all the guano.
